Never do today

Who was it who said "never do today what you can safely put off til tomorrow?"

Mrs Mason has been putting off a few tasks today but, and I think this has something to do with going on holiday tomorrow, I decided to clear my desk today and get on with it.

When finally addressing the evil tasks I found neither as hideous as I expected. And the euphoria I felt when they were done? Worth every minute. But maybe euphoria increases in direct proportion to the delay in attending to the task?

So today, Mrs Mason recommends you crack on with all those tasks you've been putting off.

Celebrity endorsement

Mrs Mason is not a fan of celebrity endorsements. I mean, aren't these people paid enough without getting stuff for free?

Today I make an exception. Miss Piggy is endorsing MAC cosmetics. Given that this is a woman, easily as old as me, if not older, it has to be said she's looking good for her years and clearly knows something about skin care and beauty.

Here are some of her best lines:-

Never eat more than you can lift.

Too much exercise can damage your health.

There is only one gift you should accept on your first date – diamonds.

I am waiting for a really strong and meaningful female pig role

Never wash your hair with anything you’d hesitate to eat or drink.

Never let your frog outdress you.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it may become necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.

Your hair is your most important accessory. In a pinch, you could do without your shoes, your purse, your eyeshadow – but without your hair, in that important first impression you’d score a Bad Beauty Impact

It's been a while

It's been a while since I blogged here. To be honest I've been focused elsewhere but also nothing has really grabbed my imagination or attention as being worthy of a Mrs Mason blog post.

Until today. When I saw this.

This web site solves that age old problem of what size you are in which shop. Genius.

I've put my measurements in and will now be shopping in Gap, Jaeger, Reiss and Zara as I am up to two sizes smaller there than in other stores.

Proof once again, should proof be required, that flattery will get you everywhere and that size DOES matter!

To Sydney, via Singapaw

Tonto has arrived in Sydney. Travelling cat class on BA Tonto was collected on Friday (though somewhat late) and taken to Heathrow. He was checked over by a Vet, his passpawt stamped and then loaded onto the BA flight, connecting in Singapaw (sorry Singapore).

Mrs Mason has been sick with worry all weekend. Is he ok? Has someone been careful to ensure he made the flight? Has someone given him a cuddle? Mrs Mason had the lovely Mr M call Sydney airport to check up on him.

I am counting the days until we are reunited. So is Mr M.

But first, the farewells. We moved out of the Frozen North on Saturday and relocated to the Miami of the West. We had a very special family get together yesterday and today, tomorrow and Wednesday Mrs Mason is off to several more goodbyes.

For that reason Mrs Mason has decided to take a short holiday from blogging. Mrs Mason recommends her dear Reader have a great Christmas. Mrs Mason will be back in the New Year.

Much love xx

Working from Home

Mrs Mason has been on garden leave since Monday and, in fact, my contract of employment ends today. So what have I been doing all week? Well I could have been packing of course. But no. Other than a day out with chums in London for another farewell I've been working.

Mrs Mason has set up her very own limited company. Called Tiger Advisory Limited, my company provides advice and assistance on all aspects of construction law; general contractual matters; risk & compliance; and, corruption related matters. We also provide training, particularly on any construction matters but also on bribery and competition law.

So far I can list the pros and cons of this venture as follows:-

The Pros.

1. I can listen to the radio all day whilst I work.
2. I can work the hours to suit me.
3. It's nice knowing the time you spend is all yours.
4. I only have lovely clients.
5. I can work in bed if I want to. In my PJ's.

The Cons.

1. It's cold so I am paying for my own heating (perhaps I should go back to bed to work, like being a student again!)
2. I am drinking way too much coffee. I didn't drink coffee when I was in an office, why have I started now?
3. Tax. I don't understand it but am keeping half my pay to one side just in case!
4. I don't have a desk or IT support. I am going to need to work on this.
5. The cat keeps walking across the lap top key board.

Sydney - like Orlando, but by the sea

On the days when I wonder what on earth we are doing moving to the OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD, particularly when we have NEVER been, I am encouraged by a number of friends who have, at least, been to Sydney. And we trust our friends and their opinions.

Mrs Mason has never been further east than Kenya (honeymoon, 1999). Our chums are all so excited for us. One chum has booked her flight already and will be with us on 6 February. Her concern is that she could be easily persuaded to stay on at the end of her trip!

I explained to the lovely Mr M that I am encouraged by this because, if one of our chums were moving somewhere we love and have been (alot) we'd be thrilled for them, and be excitedly telling them about how they'll love it. Whistler, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Palma. All good. Let's move there. Also not a 23 hour flight away.

Mrs Mason recommends positive thoughts.
